Sherman destroyed the railroad facilities in Laurinburg and the Murdoch Gun Factory outside of Laurel Hill. The Old Laurel Hill Presbyterian Church has graffiti in the belfry from Sherman’s soldiers.

I just wanted to post that our Federal Impression is of the 1st NC Union Volunteers. As far as I know, we are the only unit that portrays these brave North Carolinians. We try to be as authentic as we can be and reenact as the 1st NC Union Volunteers whenever we go to events on the east coast, especially at places like Fort Macon, Fort Fisher, etc.

I’d always tell them to go look it up…almost a full brigade at New Bern/Washington alone, never mind the partisans/guerillas in the hills
