This blog is dedicated to the memory of the men of the 1st and 2nd North Carolina Union Volunteers. If you have any information about these men please consider adding it to this project.
My GG Grandfather was a soldier in Company F, 1st North Carolina Union Volunteers. Its interesting the different reactions my father and uncle had concerning Edward. My father told me he was very proud of Edward’s service in the Union Army while my uncle said he was a damn traitor.
The tombstone above was erected by me and my father in the summer of 2001. Edward is buried in Eubanks Cemetery just outside of Pollucksville, NC. He expressed the wish to be buried in the National Cemetery in New Bern but for some unknown reason he was buried in the family graveyard. I would like to have his remains moved to the National Cemetery in New Bern but the cemetery is full and not taking any new burials.

I believe we may be distant relatives and would like for you to e-mail, if possible so I can confirm. Thanks so much!
I have been researching the Conner family of Jones County, NC for a couple of years and have found one on a Union supply ship off of Beaufort and two, I believe, as cooks of the 8th NC Partisan Rangers. But they disappear quickly in CSA records. I am wondering if they moved over to the other side. Could you point me in the direction of good resources for the NC Union Volunteers? Any help is greatly appreciated.
I see a John and William Conner who were cooks in the 8th. There is a John D. Conner who joins the 1st NCUV. I have created a page for John located here.
I am a Civil War Reenactor with the 38th NCT. I just wanted to post that our Federal Impression is of the 1st NC Union Volunteers. As far as I know, we are the only unit that portrays these brave North Carolinians. We try to be as authentic as we can be and reenact as the 1st NC Union Volunteers whenever we go to events on the east coast, especially at places like Fort Macon, Fort Fisher, etc.
Thank you for remembering these men and presenting North Carolina’s history to the world.
